So, you’ve read all the checklists, packed up your essentials and made it to College Station…only for move-in to be days or weeks away. Where do you store your stuff? How much will it cost? And most importantly: How hard will it be to get it to your new apartment?

At The Jay, we understand how important it is to have storage options close to campus to make your move-in process as easy as possible. After helping hundreds of college students with this dilemma, we’ve compiled our top five self-storage options near Texas A&M:

1. U-Haul U-Box

Address: 501 Texas Avenue

Drive time to campus: 3 minutes

Drive time to The Jay: 5 minutes

Our number one pick for self-storage options in College Station is the U-Box program through U-Haul. All you have to do is schedule a time for your weather-resistant U-Box to be dropped off at your hotel or AirBnB, load all of your stuff into it and either take it to one of U-Haul’s storage facilities yourself, have it taken to a storage facility by a U-Haul driver or have it directly shipped to your new apartment.

U-Box is our number one pick due to the convenience of having the driver delivery system. While it’s a pricier option because of this service, the U-Box program takes out the hassle of driving trip after trip with your car packed to the brim.

The rental of the U-Box usually costs between $80 to $200. Delivery and pick-up fees can range from $70 to $120, leaving you with a total of $150 to $320+ for a month of rent and storage. If you decide to have your portable shipping container delivered to your apartment, fees can range from $90 to $250+ depending on the local distance.

Address: 3101 Texas Avenue S

Drive to campus: 8 minutes

Drive to The Jay: 13 minutes

A more budget-friendly option popular with many Texas A&M students is the SmartStop Self Storage. With options for small, medium and large climate-controlled units, the SmartStop is perfect for Aggies looking to store their apartment essentials while they wait for move-in day.

Often, SmartStop Self Storage will run promotions during transition periods like Winter Break, Spring Break or over the summer. These can include discounted monthly rates.

Without these discounts, the base rate as of January 2026 ranged from $73 to $107 for a small unit and $252 to $420 for a large unit. With promotional specials, these rates can go as low as $36.

Drive to The Jay: 13 minutes

A smaller, simpler facility that often appeals to students looking for basic, month-to-month storage, LockTite offers good overall ratings and competitive pricing near the Earl Rudder Freeway area, making it convenient for students living on the west side of town.

Also offering website and seasonal promotions, LockTite runs discounted rates semi-regularly, making it popular with Texas A&M students.

In January 2026, small units start at $21 with website deals listing them at $16. Large units can go up to $245, or a discounted $185 for web rates.

4. Extra Space Storage

Address: 2474 Earl Rudder Freeway

Drive to campus: 8 minutes

Drive to The Jay: 12 minutes

A well-maintained, full-service facility with strong reviews, Extra Space Storage appeals to students who want a more modern storage experience with added security and climate-controlled options. Located along Earl Rudder Freeway South, it’s convenient for students living on the east side of College Station and those who don’t mind a short drive from campus in exchange for upgraded amenities and professional on-site management.

Extra Space frequently advertises online move-in specials and first-month discounts, making it a competitive option during peak move-out and summer storage seasons for Texas A&M students.

As of early 2026, smaller units typically start in the mid-$40s to low-$50s per month depending on availability and promotions, while larger units can exceed $100+ per month, with discounted web rates often lowering the initial move-in cost.

5. Lock N Roll Storage

A conveniently located storage option near Earl Rudder Freeway, Lock N Roll Storage attracts students who want straightforward, affordable storage with flexible unit sizes just a short drive from campus and major student housing areas. While not as feature-rich as some larger facilities, Lock N Roll provides the basics: easy access, a range of storage options, and pricing that can work well for semester-to-semester or summer storage needs.

Lock N Roll also runs periodic online and seasonal promotions, which many Texas A&M students take advantage of to lower their move-in costs.

As of early 2026, smaller units at Lock N Roll can start around the high-$20s per month, with larger units climbing into the mid-hundreds; promotional web rates often discount available units by $10–$30 or more depending on timing and availability.
