1. Lower Countertops

For countertops to be considered *ADA friendly, countertops must be between 28 to 34 inches tall. At The Jay, you will find 34-inch countertops in accessible units and 36-inch countertops in standard units.
2. Adapted Kitchen and Appliances

To optimize reach and usability, accessible kitchens at The Jay include adapted features that are easy to reach. Stoves have front-facing controls, making them more accessible from a seated position. Microwaves are positioned on the countertop instead of above the stove for easy access.
3. Side-by-Side Washer Dryer

In most of The Jay’s layouts, the washer and dryer units are stacked to conserve space. Accessible apartments at The Jay offer a side-by-side washer dryer setup located in a dedicated utility closet. Additionally, washer/dryer setups are at a height that leaves room for overhead space to store laundry supplies or hang clothes.
4. Bathroom Modifications

At The Jay, accessible units include roll-in showers or ADA compliant tubs with additional clear floor space. Grab bars can be added throughout the room near the toilet and shower areas for increased accessibility.
5. Removable Cabinets
Another key feature in accessible apartments is the removable cabinets beneath the kitchen and bathroom vanities. This increases knee space under the sink for wheelchair users if they choose to remove them. Otherwise, the cabinets appear the same as the signature cabinets throughout The Jay’s units.
