On-Campus
At Texas A&M, since it’s normal for first-year students to live on campus, some students may assume they’ll be on campus all four years. That’s not entirely true for the majority of students, primarily because of limited availability for on-campus housing, which typically reaches maximum occupancy in February of the previous year.
For on-campus living, there are 27 residence halls, 25 dorm-style and two apartment communities for students to choose from.
Dorms

Residence halls at Texas A&M are university-owned dorms located throughout campus and are often a popular choice for first year students. Texas A&M’s dorms are found either in the south side of campus near Haney Drill Field, or the north side near Simpson Drill Field. When choosing a dorm, students often consider their major and their preferred proximity to the specific buildings to decide which side of campus aligns best with their course schedule and lifestyle.
These dorm-style residence halls are designed to help freshmen adjust to college life, often including a residential assistant to help aid their transition. At A&M, it’s not mandatory for first-year students to live at the dorms, but they are required to register for Hullabaloo U. Hullabaloo U is Texas A&M’s first-year experience course that provides students with the resources they need to be successful both in the classroom and in their personal lives.
Most dorms come fully furnished, feature community or suite-style bathrooms, laundry facilities within or near the dorm, and lounge areas to facilitate community. Required with the dorm experience is a meal plan through Texas A&M’s dining services that allows students to grab meals from each of the five dining halls on campus based on their meal plan of choice.
Apartments
The White Creek Apartments and The Gardens Apartments are the only apartments located on Texas A&M’s campus offered to both undergraduate and graduate students. These communities offer more independent-living options for students who are looking to stay on campus without dorm life.
Located in West Campus, The White Creek Apartments are just steps away from the School of Public Health, Institute for Preclinical Studies and Mays School of Business, making it an optimal choice for upperclassmen with courses in these buildings.
On the Northside of Campus, The Gardens Apartments are set aside for graduate, married, international, U.S. military veteran and upperclassmen students, as well as students with dependent children.
While it is uncommon, Aggie students beyond their first year can live on campus on a first-come, first-served basis, after freshmen are taken care of. For more information on Texas A&M’s dorm-style residence halls and apartments, visit their website.

Off-Campus
With increasing enrollment year over year, it has become more popular for both underclassmen and upperclassmen students to live off campus. There are many neighborhoods around campus built to support students and diverse lifestyles.
We broke down each of the most popular off-campus neighborhoods to help you find the right fit.
Northgate

Just off University Drive, Northgate, is home to student favorites like Dixie Chicken, Hurricane Harry’s and Tipsy Turtle. This area includes some of the newest apartments in College Station such as The Otto (2024), The Jay (2027) and The Rev (2023), and each of these new builds offers students a lifestyle of convenience with amenities like rooftop lounges, private study spaces and on-site fitness centers just down the street from the heart of Texas A&Ms nightlife.
Eastgate

Near Texas A&M’s sorority houses, Eastgate is a hotspot for sorority members highly involved in house activities. The area is quieter, including both houses and traditional apartments open to both students and families around Thomas Park. Spanning from Cooner Street to Dominik Drive, Eastgate residents have quick highway access and a variety of franchise favorites such as Raising Cane’s, Dutch Bros and Mamaka Bowls minutes from home.
Historic

Located south of Aggie Park, Historic is one of the largest and most popular neighborhoods for Texas A&M students including communities like Wolf Pen Creek, Oakwood, College Park and Woodson Village. The Historic district is defined by its century-old live oak trees and untouched homes near the George Bush Presidential Library. This area is perfect for students looking to soak in the rich history of Aggieland off campus while still having nearby modern conveniences like Target and HEB.
South Knoll

Near the Historic District, South Knoll is an area known for its well-maintained parks and trails north of Harvey Mitchell Parkway. The area offers student housing through communities like Woodlands of College Station and Campus Village Apartments, as well as single-family homes often open to students for rent. South Knoll is about a 10-minute drive from campus and less than five minutes from college-student necessities like Starbucks, Chipotle and Andy’s Frozen Custard.
South Bryan

Another popular area for Texas A&M students is South Bryan. Bryan, known as the twin city to College Station, offers students a more independent living experience just down Wellborn Road. Well-known communities in South Bryan like Aggie Station, Reveille Ranch and Howdy Court are popular picks for students in fraternities due to their proximity to Aggie game day favorites such as Chimy’s, Dry Bean Saloon and The Green at Century Square.
