Are you hoping to live near your friends, sorority sisters, fraternity brothers, teammates or organization members in College Station?

At The Jay, our neighborhoods are designed to make that easier.

Instead of spreading your group across different buildings, floors or apartment communities, a neighborhood gives your crew the opportunity to lease apartments near each other within The Jay. That means you can stay close to the people you already spend time with while still having your own apartment, your own bedroom and your own space.

In this article, we’ll cover:

What Are Neighborhoods at The Jay?

Students laugh together in their shared apartment.

At The Jay, a neighborhood is a group of apartments leased near each other within the community.

Think of it like creating your own community of familiar faces. You and your friends don’t have to squeeze into one apartment to live close together. Instead, your group may be able to lease several apartments near one another, depending on availability.

For example, if you have a large group of friends who want to live together near Texas A&M, some of you might lease one apartment while others lease another apartment nearby. You are not all sharing the same kitchen, living room or lease, but you are still close enough to hang out, study, get ready, walk to class or meet up before game day.

That is the main idea behind neighborhoods: you get the convenience of living near your people without giving up the independence of your own apartment.

Who Are Neighborhoods a Good Fit For?

Neighborhoods can work well for many types of student groups.

You may be interested in a neighborhood at The Jay if you are part of a:

  • Sorority new member class
  • Fraternity group
  • Club or student organization
  • Sports team
  • Freshman or sophomore friend group
  • Large roommate group
  • Group of friends who want to stay close but not all share one unit

This setup can be especially helpful for students who want a strong community feel but do not necessarily want to live in a traditional chapter house or split up across multiple apartment communities.

The Jay’s location near Texas A&M also makes it a strong option for students who want to stay connected to campus life in College Station. Instead of walking across Northgate to get ready for a tailgate with your friends, in a neighborhood at The Jay, you’d just have to walk down the hall!

Why Lease a Neighborhood at The Jay?

Neighborhoods are helpful for more than just convenience. They can make your day-to-day college experience feel more connected, more social and more organized.

Here are a few reasons students may choose a neighborhood at The Jay.

1. Live Close to Friends Without Sharing One Apartment with Everyone

A group of Texas A&M students walk around the stadium in College Station.

Large groups are fun, but living with everyone in one unit is not always realistic. If there’s too many people for one floor plan, or some people want to live with one roommate and others with four, it can get difficult figuring out the best way to keep everyone together.

A neighborhood gives your group a middle ground. You can live near your friends while still having separation between apartments. That means you can hang out when you want to, but also have space to study, sleep, reset or spend time with your own roommates.

For example, your closest friends may be right down the hall or nearby in the building, but you still have your own bedroom, bathroom access, living area and daily routine.

This can be a major advantage for students who want the energy of group living while accommodating everyone’s individual living preferences.

2. Make Plans Easier

Texas A&M students hang out off campus at a restaurant in Northgate.

When your friends live nearby, everything gets simpler.

Instead of texting five different people across College Station to coordinate plans, your group can meet up more easily for:

  • Studying
  • Walking to campus
  • Getting ready for events
  • Grabbing food
  • Watching games
  • Hosting organization meetings
  • Hanging out before or after class

For Texas A&M students, this can be especially helpful during busy weeks with classes, student organization events, chapter commitments, intramurals and game days.

Living near each other removes some of the friction from making plans and makes it easier to see the people you’re closest to.

3. Create a Built-In Community

One of the biggest benefits of neighborhoods is the community feel.

When your group leases apartments near each other, you are not just picking a place to sleep. You are creating a home base for your college experience.

This can be especially valuable for Greek life members, student organizations or teams that already spend a lot of time together. A neighborhood can give your group a similar sense of connection to a shared house, without requiring everyone to live in one large space.

It can also be a great option if:

  • Your chapter house does not have enough room
  • You want to live with a smaller group of close friends
  • Your organization wants a central place to gather
  • You want more privacy than a traditional group housing setup
  • You still want access to apartment amenities

4. Enjoy The Jay’s Shared Spaces Together

The Jay’s courtyard pool deck offers a variety of lounge seating, a jumbotron and grills, offering plenty of space to unwind, catch up with friends or cheer on your team.

Another benefit of living near your friends is that you can take better advantage of the community amenities together.

The Jay is designed to support the academic, social and wellness-driven lifestyle of Texas A&M students. With amenities like a club room, fitness center, on-site coffee shop and study spaces, living at a student housing property like The Jay can be hugely influential on your college experience.

That matters because neighborhoods are not only about the apartments themselves. They are also about how your group uses the building.

Your neighborhood can make it easier to:

  • Meet in study spaces
  • Work out together
  • Use lounges for group hangouts
  • Gather before campus events
  • Spend time together without leaving the property
  • Build routines around shared amenities

Instead of everyone living in different parts of College Station, your group can enjoy the convenience of being in the same community.

5. Stay Near Texas A&M and College Station Hot Spots

Location is another major reason students may be interested in leasing a neighborhood at The Jay.

The Jay is located in the heart of College Station, only a short walk from campus hubs like:

For groups, that location can be a major benefit.

When your friends live nearby and your apartment is close to campus, it becomes easier to stay connected to:

  • Classes
  • Campus events
  • Texas A&M traditions
  • Northgate-area activities
  • Restaurants and coffee shops
  • Student organization commitments
  • Game day plans

For many students, where you live can shape your entire college routine. A neighborhood at The Jay helps your group stay close to each other and close to the places you already spend time.

How Do Neighborhoods Work at The Jay?

The Jay is located at 313 College Ave., just a short walk from Texas A&M campus.

Neighborhood availability depends on timing, floor plan selection and how many apartments your group needs.

In general, the process looks like this:

  1. Talk with your group. Figure out who is seriously interested, what floor plans people want and how many apartments you may need.
  2. Review floor plans and pricing. Look at The Jay’s floor plan options and identify layouts that work for your group size, budget and preferences.
  3. Contact the leasing team. Let the team know you are interested in a neighborhood and explain how many people or units you are hoping to place near each other.
  4. Discuss available options. The leasing team can walk you through what is available and help you understand what may work best for your group.
  5. Move quickly if you find a good fit. Neighborhoods depend on apartment availability. As more units lease, it may become harder to place a large group close together.

The earlier your group starts the conversation, the more options you are likely to have.

How Many People Do You Need for a Neighborhood?

There is not one exact group size that works for every situation.

A neighborhood may make sense for a group of 8, 12, 20 or more students, depending on the apartment layouts available and how close together your group wants to be.

For example:

  • A group of 8 might choose two four-bedroom apartments near each other.
  • A group of 12 might choose three four-bedroom apartments.
  • A larger Greek life or organization group might want several apartments on the same floor or in the same area of the building.

The best way to know what is possible is to contact The Jay’s leasing team with your estimated group size and preferred floor plans.

What Should Your Group Decide Before Reaching Out?

Before you contact the leasing team, it helps to get organized.

Try to answer these questions first:

  • How many people are interested?
  • Does everyone want to live in the same floor plan type?
  • Are people open to different apartment sizes?
  • What is everyone’s budget?
  • Does your group want to be on the same floor?
  • Are there specific amenities or locations in the building you care about?
  • How soon is everyone ready to sign?

You do not need to have every detail finalized, but having a general idea will make the process smoother.

Are Neighborhoods Only for Greek Life?

No. Neighborhoods are not just for Greek life.

While sororities and fraternities may be a natural fit, neighborhoods can also work for sports teams, student organizations, clubs or large friend groups.

The main requirement is simple: you have a group of people who want to live near each other.

Whether you met through recruitment, Fish Camp, a student organization, your major, your hometown or your freshman-year friend group, a neighborhood can help your group stay connected at home.
